A group of Latinos in Fairbanks created Latinos Unidos del Norte

La Tienda, the first Latino ethnic store in Alaska, opened in Anchorage's Boniface Mall. Later, the store was moved to the intersection of Northern Lights and Arctic.

Abraham Gallos opened his first restaurant.

The Alaska Chapter of the National Organization League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) was already active.
1983
KSKA had already a robust Latino programming, with five shows including Festival de Melodías, Domingo de Estrellas, Ecos del Coqui, Colombia en Alaska, and The Latin Show.
1984
The U.S. Small Business Administration office (SBA) recognized Oscar Guarderas as entrepreneur of the year.
Judge Rene J. Gonzalez appointed to the Anchorage Superior Court. The first Latino judge in the state, Gonzalez served in this position until 2002.
1985
Liz Vazquez was appointed Assistant Attorney General of the State of Alaska. She served in this position until 2003.
1987
De la Vega Park was named after Javier de la Vega, a late Mexican soccer player who lived in Anchorage
1987
First summer festival Ecos del Coqui celebrated in Goose Lake. A second edition of the festival happened in 1988.
1988
A group of Latino Catholics hoping to have a Spanish mass in Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish created the Ministerio Católico Hispano.
1989
La Voz Latina published for the first time. The newspaper ran until 1999.
